Ms. Thomas brings over 30 years experience in the healthcare industry including office management, billing, collections, ICD-9-CM, CPT-4 and HCPCS coding. She has assisted in minor surgical office procedures as well as performed front desk, laboratory, x-ray and medical assistant duties. She developed, authored and teaches the Certified Coding Professional (CCP) curriculum, the certification exam and the study guide to the certification exam. She also provides one-on-one professional assistance to physicians and their staff for all specialties; related to ICD-9, CPT and HCPCS coding and documentation. Ms. Thomas has also been called upon to provide expert witness in legal matters related to Fraud and Abuse.

Mrs. Louden is our Director of Membership Services. She came to us as a student and received her certification through PHIA as a Certified Coding Professional in 2005. She is a member of the LKMGMA and is involved in the Louisville Medical Leads Group. Her responsibilities include marketing, organizing and securing Speakers, Sponsors and Exhibitors for our Annual CEU Roundtable Conference each year. She is in charge of collecting and assembling articles for our quarterly Newsletter. Karen is also responsible for the administration of student affairs. In addition to performing daily administrative tasks, she also maintains the company database, pre-qualifies potential students, and serves as a PHIA Member Liaison. She also works in the coding department and is responsible for the research and coding updates to the course curriculum for ICD-9 and CPT.
Nikky Thompson, CCP, CCP-AS, CMBS

Mrs. Thompson has 15 years experience in the health care industry, including front
office coordinator, billing, collections, chart auditing, transcription, credentialing and
ICD-9-CM, CPT-4 and HCPCS coding. She has also assisted in minor surgical office
procedures, front desk, laboratory, and medical assistant duties. She came to us as
a student and received her certification through PHIA as a Certified Coding
Professional in 2004. She currently provides both in-house and field training to
healthcare professionals. She is a faculty advisor for the Fundamentals of Billing
and Coding (FOBC) diploma program, as well as the Certified Coding Professional
(CCP), the Certified Coding Professional - Audit Specialist (CCP-AS) and the
Certified Coding Professional - Hospital (CCP-H) certification programs. She also
assisted in the development of the Certified Medical Billing Specialist (CMBS)
certification program. Mrs. Thompson also serves as the President of the Team
PHIA coding sector, Louisville chapter.
Mrs. Thompson also performs chart audits and provides one-on-one professional
assistance to physicians and their staff for all specialties; related to ICD-9, CPT and
HCPCS coding and documentation.

Renee Savarise
Advisory Board Member
Mrs. Savarise is a shareholder with Hall, Render, Killian, Heath & Lyman, P.S.C. representing health care providers of all types in the areas of Health Law, Corporate Compliance, Fraud and Abuse (anti-kickback law, Stark II etc.), False Claims Act matters including representing a number of providers in the various federal fraud initiatives, Medicare/Medicaid Reimbursement, Licensure and Business Law. She received her undergraduate education at the University of Pittsburgh; her legal education from Duquesne University School of Law, also located in Pittsburgh.
Mrs. Savarise is admitted to practice in Kentucky, Indiana and Pennsylvania. She is a member of the American, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Indiana, and Louisville Bar Associations, American Health Lawyers Association and Kentucky Academy of Hospital Attorneys. Professional experience: Vice President and General Counsel, St. Anthony Medical Center, Louisville, Kentucky (1990-1995); private practice (1989-1990), Law Clerk to The Honorable George Levin, Judge, Pennsylvania Common Pleas Court (1986-1989). She is on the Board of Directors of various civic and professional organizations including Kentucky Medical News and the Kentucky Academy of Hospital Attorneys. She is a past chair of the Louisville Bar Association Health Law Section. Ms. Savarise is a frequent lecturer on health law issues.
Tammy Rannells

Mrs. Rannells has 13 years experience in the health care industry including: Medical Office Coordinator, Billing, Collections, ICD-9-CM, CPT-4 and HCPCS coding. She has also assisted in minor surgical office procedures, front desk, laboratory, x-ray and Medical Assistant duties. She currently provides both in-house and field training to healthcare professionals.
